History of storing music data
People always liked to listen to music but in the past they were not able to store the music data. They would have to sing or play themselves to hear their favorite songs. This changed over the last 200 years. Devices to store music data were invented and developed quickly. Some of these devices are still in use others became unnecessary.
One of the first devices to store music data was the gramophone record. Using a gramophone one could listen to music. Back then these records and the gramophone were rather expensive so not many people owned one. The gramophone gave the recording a particular sound which some people still like today. But gramophones are very rare today. Unless they are discovered in an antique shop they are really hard to find.
After this another device was invented. It was made out of vinyl and be played using a record player. Everybody owned a record player because they were cheaper in compared to gramophones. Until today many people still own a record player and have a big collection of records from their youth and today’s music.
Tapes were used after that. They were smaller and easier to handle. Portable devices like the walkman were invented. Using a walkman one could listen to music everywhere. This made tapes very popular. CDs were used to store music data a bit later. Portable devices made listening to music while walking around outside also possible. A lot of people like listening to music while jogging or sitting on the bus. Using tapes or CDs people always had to carry around different CDs or tapes in case they got bored with the one they were listening to.
Nowadays MP3 players are used to listen to music everywhere. There is no need to carry around CDs or tapes because all the music data is stored on the device itself. A lot of data can be stored there so people do not get tired to listening to it. By connecting the MP3 player to the computer people can change the songs and albums on the player. This is quickly done and people can change the data as often as they want to.
